Mr. Luis Leon serves as Chief Operating Officer of Prime Healthcare, an award-winning health system with 45 hospitals in 14 states and nearly 50,000 employees and physicians. Mr. Leon also serves as CEO of Region VI of Prime Healthcare which includes hospitals and affiliated entities in Ohio, Indiana, Rhode Island and Florida.

Previously, Mr. Leon was the President of Operations, Division II of Prime Healthcare. Prime Healthcare Division II included 28 hospitals, multiple medical groups and clinics in 12 states east of Nevada. During his eight-year tenure as Division President, Mr. Leon successfully facilitated strategic acquisitions, affiliations, and partnerships with hospitals, physicians and healthcare systems across the United States. With an engaging and collaborative leadership style, Mr. Leon steered Prime Healthcare through transformational change by improving patient care, growing market share and revenue, strengthening physician and employee relations, and improving quality. Under his leadership, Prime’s hospitals in Division garnered numerous clinical awards, five-star achievements and safety excellence awards from IBM Watson Health, The Leapfrog Group, Healthgrades, and more. Mr. Leon’s role was key to the recovery and transformation of many hospitals, strategically positioning Prime Healthcare for success. During his tenure as Division II President, Prime grew to be the 5th largest, for-profit acute care hospital system within the United States. Prime has been recognized as a Top 15 Health System three times by Truven Health Analytics, and Prime hospitals have been recognized 53 times as “100 Top Hospitals” over the years.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Leon was the Prime Healthcare Regional CEO in San Diego, overseeing Alvarado Hospital Medical Center and Paradise Valley Hospital. He was instrumental in bringing operational improvements and stability to the hospitals. Both facilities received numerous safety and quality awards from The Leapfrog Group, Healthgrades and The Joint Commission. During Mr. Leon’s tenure, Alvarado was consistently recognized as a “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures.” Paradise Valley Hospital has been recognized as a “100 Top Hospital” in the nation by IBM Watson Health.

Mr. Leon performed his general studies at La Sierra University in Riverside, California. He is a Physician Assistant from the University of California, Davis, and received a Bachelor of Science degree and MBA from the University of Saint Mary. He served on the board of the California Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties and maintained memberships with the California Association of Physicians Assistants, the National Association of Physicians Assistants, the California Association of Radiologic Technologists, and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies.

A native of Cuba, Mr. Leon emigrated with his family to the United States as a young boy. He and his wife currently reside in Riverside, California, with their two sons. Mr. Leon is a classically trained musician proficient on serval instruments, including the organ, which he often plays at church. He and his family regularly conduct fundraising concerts, providing much-needed scholarship money for music students in need. Over the years, Mr. Leon has performed in several operas and musicals. He is also a fan of the outdoors, enjoys running, camping, offroading, and gardening.
